Chapter 54
Forever
My heart beat frantically as I tried to clear my face of the warm red abashment. The words still ringing in my ears that Edan thought I couldn’t hear, “Goodbye Hai, forever.” It was written everywhere I looked, on the walls, floor, even the columns that flew far above where my eyes could climb. They dripped from the ceiling as if they were blood from an open wound. I had a hard time believing that maybe somehow they were veritable. It was like having a song suck in your head, the rhythm is perfect but the lyrics are harsh. You just want it out of your head. “Goodbye Hai.”
I slinked down the side of the wall hanging my head low, my hair dangling over my face. I hugged my knees again rocking back on the balls of my feet. Heart heavy in my chest I whispered, “Goodbye Edan. Forever.” There was no point in convincing myself otherwise, it was going to be forever. Maybe he wouldn’t be killed, but we would never be allowed to see each other. Or possibly they would just kill me and be done with it.
I sat quietly, trying to wipe the tears that wouldn’t stop from my eyes. It was like telling the sun not to shine, they just wouldn’t stop flowing.
“I’m sorry Miss,” one of the guards placed his hand on my shoulder as he knelt down next to me. I could feel the chill of his skin through the think glove. “Is there anything I can do?”
“Keep him from getting hurt!” I cried harder digging my nails into the flesh of my palms waiting for the warm sticky liquid to pour out.
“I’m sorry I’m afraid I have no power over that, we will just have to wait and see what the council has to say.” I brushed the tears off my eyes. The minutes seemed drag on, holding on to whatever they could but mostly me. The sound of footsteps echoed across the room and into my ears. Oh Lord, please tell me nothing bad has happened. I dug into my hands even deeper as I punctured my skin and blood spilled out.
I peered up from behind the curtain of water, “Edan!” I immediately ran to him, wrapping my arms around the middle of his back, being slightly too short to reach his shoulders. I stared up at his expressionless pale face as he put his arm around my back. He had a mien of still saying goodbye, most likely forever.
“The council decided to let me live because I had saved your life,” he breathed deeply. Thank God, I thought deeply. I didn’t bother to answer, just having him be here was good enough for me. Indulging myself in his intoxicating presence. He leaned down kissing my cheek again, squeezing my shoulder.
“You idiot!” A cherubic voice shouted from behind us. Edan and I turned around as a fire flame haired girl punched him in the shoulder.
“Owww Molly, what was that for?” Edan said rubbing his shoulder.
“That was for almost getting yourself killed! Goodness you think a person would learn their lesson.” Her flaming hair twisted into her shoulders, showing more of the pair of brown eyes against beautiful pallid skin.
“Shut up Molly,” he grumbled.
“Nope,” she smirked playfully. “Who’s your little ‘friend’?”
“Will you please go away?”
“Well aren’t you going to introduce her to your foster sister? Just because we aren’t blood related doesn’t mean we aren’t family.”
“No I’m not.”
“Well then I don’t care I’ll introduce myself, you know sometimes you can be a bit of a downer.” She then turned to me, unknowingly showing off her extreme beauty, and stretched out her hand. “Hello I’m Molly, Edan’s foster sister,” her beauty made me feel even more human. Would I ever get the breath taking beauty she got?
“I’m Hai,” I muttered, “the stupid little human girl.”
She laughed slightly, “Well I wouldn’t consider you stupid,” she leaned in closely changing her tone to a not so low mutter, “unlike my brother over there.”
I giggled as Edan started to fill with rage. “Since when am I your brother,” he growled.
“Since the day Joseph came over and said ‘Hey how’s it going? Nice weather we’re having. You have a new brother.’ That’s when.” Edan rolled his deep black eyes. “Well,” she continued, “it looks like I need to hit you again.” She balled her fists and hit him in the shoulder repetitively. I giggled heavily, still choking on tears.
“Cut it out,” Edan grumbled again.
“Nope,” she smiled mockingly behind the flames of hair making her look even more mischievous. I began to laugh harder feeling the blush on my cheeks burn. It was like being with my brothers again; Cody would constantly bother David until he would lash out at him. They would fight over everything, whether or not there was any point behind it at all. Like that day in April how they argued over what would be a scarier event.
“Shut up Molly!” Edan growled intensely. He glanced over his shoulder taking note of the gold spun woman walking over, “Hai why don’t you wait here with Molly for a minute?”
“Alright,” I said losing the giggle in my voice as he pulled himself away from me and Molly yanked on my hand.
“Come on Hai! There’s something I want to show you!”

- For some reason this reminds me of when we were watching the worlds fatest man and i was drawing that "portrait" of you on my laptop and then i went "So you wanna know what i said? I said 'I wanna be a REPTILE.'" in this creepy yet comepletely serious voice... but still idk what that has to do with this.
