• CHAPTER 135 - FAMILY-LIKE REUNION?

Ah, yes, everybody knows there are certain family members of a family reunion you could live without.

I was dozing off; my eyelids were heavy and the subtle sounds of teh forest were like a lullaby. The faint noise of Kai's teleportation was a little more than fifty feet away. I was positive that nothing would go wrong that night; I was surviving two days outside so far. I was even able to have a normal, one-year anniversary date with Kai.

After thinking about last night, I noticed that Kai was just a little bit more clingy than normal. He kissed my forehead often and his arms were around me more than usual. He would probably want to end up making out more and giving me more hickeys...not that I would mind; I would just have to buy more turtlenecks...and chapstick.

My eyes snapped open as soon as my mouth was covered by a warm hand. I took half a second to be relieved it wasn't a Vampire but I panicked when I didn't know who it could have been. I was pulled to the side and then up onto my feet. I never turned around to look at my attacker but I did as they wanted after a sharp tip poked my back.

"Proceed forward," a cold, British voice seethed; Mayura.

"Kai isn't too far away; are you sure you're not trying to kill yourself?" I seethed back.

"Keep moving," she hissed and pressed the tip of the blade behind my heart. "You scream and you're food for Hitoshi."

I silenced myself and moved forward, away from Kai. I had no clue what to do; I wanted to call out to Kai for help but I didn't want Ai to become a victim, and Mayura would kill me instantly if I were to scream. Even though a Succubus's strength was equal to that of a human, she was still stronger than I was. I wouldn't be able to fight her off for long.

At a distance, I could hear loud chomping and some groaning that sounded like an animal. My thoughts were confirmed as soon as Mayura and I approached an enormous Werewolf. Hitoshi was hunched over, tearing a dead deer limb-from-limb. He turned his large head towards me and growled with his jowls dripping blood and flesh from the deer. I held my stomach and groaned, feeling nauseous. A drop of blood was enough to make me sick, but what Hitoshi was doing made me want to turn inside-out.

"Scream, I dare you," Mayura challenged.

I slowly shook my head, unable to tear my eyes off of Hitoshi and his red eyes. I had seen Hitoshi as a Werewolf before but it was terrifying the second time, especially since he was mauling an animal right in front of me. I still wanted to call out to Kai, but I didn't want to be Hitoshi's desert.

I decided to Hell with it and called out Kai's name in my head. Hitoshi's eyes sparked and I quickly hid behind a tree, only to have Mayura pull me back out. Hitoshi leaped and my life flashed quickly before my eyes before I noticed that Hitoshi never hit me. Peeking my eyes open, Kai had a good grip on Hitoshi and was forcing him back inch by inch. It was cliché, yes, but it sure came in handy. I struggled, but I managed to shake Mayura off of me and she rushed to help Hitoshi.

Ai ran to my side, panicking, "Nana!"

"I'm fine, I'm fine," I reassured, glancing over at the remains of the deer.

"I'll go get uncle Kira!" Ai suggested and ran off before I could stop her.

There was a groan from Kai as he was struggling. I picked up a few stones and chucked them pathetically at Hitoshi, "Go away!"

Hitoshi's angry eye veered towards me. Kai growled and dragged one set of nails over one of Hitoshi's eyes. With a yelp, Hitoshi backed away and Mayura drew out her gun. Kai gripped my shoulders and stared at me, ignoring Mayura.

"Are you hurt?" Kai scanned me. "Where's Ai?"

"She went to get Kira; she left before I could stop her." I responded.

"Dammit," Kai hissed under his breath.

"We've tried a thousand times before; just let us kill the girl now!" Mayura hissed.

"We're not giving you Ai," I mumbled.

Mayura snickered, "Stupid," she rose her finger and pointed it at me. "You."

"Make up your goddamn mind," Kai mumbled.

"Since Hisao hasn't seen his daughter in a year, she's useless," Mayura shrugged. "I figured I'd spare Arisa from the worst pain. And she's also a pain in the a**, if you ask me."

"You wouldn't really try to kill your reincarnation, would you?" I challenged also, even though the words made me want to vomit.

"I've killed sobbing children," Mayura spat.

I covered my mouth, consumed in disbelief. Despite the fact that I was born from Mayura, we were complete opposites. I didn't have the willpower to kill a bug, yet she claimed she kills without remorse or hesitation.

A loud growl ripped out of Hitoshi's chest and he turned around. We all looked in the direction he was and Mayura groaned in dissatisfaction; Kira and Ai reappeared. As soon as Kira's eyes landed on Hitoshi, he growled as well. He met Hitoshi once, but not as a Werewolf, and when Kira had met him, Hitoshi tried to kill me.

"Kira, you shouldn't be here," I warned. "Ai, don't run off like that." I lectured with a shaky voice.

Hitoshi dove at Kira and Kira grabbed Ai and disappeared. Hitoshi and Mayura turned towards Kai and me. Before any other actions were made, Kai gripped me and teleported. I didn't have time to close my eyes, unfortunately, so, as soon as Kai and me landed, I covered my mouth and dropped to my knees.

"I'm sorry, but I had to get you out," Kai cupped my face. "Hitoshi would have literally torn your head off, had we stayed."

"Oh..." I groaned and laid down, sick to my stomach. That was my second time not closing my eyes; I had forgotten how miserable it made me feel.

Kai removed my jacket and then his own. He exchanged them, putting his jacket on me and draping mine over his arm. He brushed my bangs away and kissed my forehead.

"I'll lead them elsewhere; stay here." he commanded. "The grass is long enough to conceal you; don't move."

"I love you," I kissed him. "Be safe...and send Kira and Ai home."

Kai nodded and kissed me back, "I'll bring you home as soon as your nausea is gone and as soon as I lure away Mayura and Hitoshi."

For a moment, lying down in the long grass with severe nausea after teleporting reminded me of when Kai told me he loved me. He had gotten upset that I was hurt and he was never informed, then he took me outside, grabbed me, and teleported without much of a warning into an empty field near a river. I couldn't afford o lose him, which meant I couldn't hold him back from me being so dependent. Kai kissed me once more, filling my mouth with his sweet breath.

"Don't move," Kai whispered, stood up, and ran off.

I finally understood why he exchanged our jackets; I knew he was luring Mayura and Hitoshi away, but he was trying to cover up my scent with his jacket and using mine to create a trail with my scent. I wrapped one arm around my stomach and pressed my other hand against my forehead with the faux fur cuffs of Kai's jacket brushing my face. A cool breeze swept over me, tussling my hair and the grass. It was silent; no noises were near other than the wind. I felt safe, despite a hybrid and a Succubus wanted to tear my head off. I didn't think Mayura's logic to killing me made sense, but then again, nothing about her made sense.

I could have sworn I heard something rushing, but I internally kicked myself as soon as I realized it was the wind picking up, "Stupid," I mumbled to myself.

Perhaps I merely wished it was a gust of wind. I couldn't understand how my life was so coincidental. The rushing neared and my ankle was suddenly throbbing after somebody tripped over me. I rose my head a few inches and peeked through the grass and my nausea, only for my eyes to match with Mayura's brown eyes. Before I could blink again, Mayura's eyes flashed to anger, and she was on top of me, clasping her hands to my throat.

"Does it suck to always run into such consequences?" she smirked, tightening her grip around my throat.

    Yes, actually, it did.
