The thick moist earth in the dewy morning, the amount of fog is exciting to the every touch. Hardly seen throughout the layers of misty whips of lightly drawn white and gray fog surrounding the very black wolf prowling through the dense forest searching for a life worth living. He yet has failed to find one. He heard something through the fog and wondered what it might be. He usually doesn't let curiosity control him very often, he ventured towards the tiny noise. As he got near the tiny noise he could almost detect a wolf sound, almost like a squeak. He flicked his ears more intently towards the sound.
"Hello?" a female wolf pup said.
"Who's there?" he said more alert to his surroundings, wondering if it was a trap. He waited a few moments but there were no answer."I said who is there?" he started to growl.
"Relax, gee your impatient today" the female wolf pup said as she came into view. "Why hello there" she waged her light brown tail. She looked as if she were made of the earth itself. "I'm Twist" she said hopefully. "Will you tell me of your story? Black Walker?" Twist said wagging her tail.
"What do you want to know?" Black Walker asked he was starting to seem suspicious of the pup.
"Start from the beginning" Twist said enthusiastically.
"Alright." he said and started his story "This is a tale above the falls not to far from here." Black Walker said lightly as the tale unfolded before the young pup.
The black wolf pup was watching the world go round when he thought of a great story to tell. He was always good at telling stories to the pups to keep them busy while the parents went out to hunt, or patrol. "A great black wolf stood on top of a clear waterfall, a blue light shown on him as he looked down at the pool of water below him. There stood a white wolf growling with anger, looking up at the wolf. It's maw covered with crimson red blood, it looked as if he was in a battle. But that white wolf killed to get where he is today, a leader of the great white pack, a large pack of wolves ready to fight at his words. The white wolf growled and called up "You can't get away from me that easily little brother!" he howled the words. The black wolf growled and took a few steps back and then.." the pup stopped. He suddenly had an audience in front of him, he was so lost in thought that he didn't realize that pups started to gather around him.
"What happened next!" the young pup said excited.
"Yeah please go on" another pup said almost bouncing off his paws.
"Alright," the black wolf pup said and started where he left off. "As I was saying 'You can't get away from me that easily little brother!' he howled the words. The black wolf growled and took a few steps back and then jumped from the waterfalls his pelt streaking silver, and red. Where did he get such a red pelt? You may ask. He got if from thousands of battles with wolves that were evil in the pack. He wanted to protect the wolves of the pack, but he ended up banished from the pack instead. He was helping the world getting rid of evil wolves, like his brother, the great white wolf named River.' A pup interrupted "Isn't that your fathers and you brothers names?" the first pup asked.
"Yes" the black pup answered nodding. "May I please continue?" he asked politely.
"Yes of course," the second pup said.
"What happened next?" a bunch of other wolf pups said in unison.
The black pup smiled and continued. "The black wolf clashed with the water making it turn red from the dried blood from his pelt, he dived under, and deeper then any wolf could have known." he gone along with the story acting with it when it started to get intense. "And then, splash his black head bobbed out of the water and swam to the white wolf. And there they started to size each other up. "Brother, you are evil and I will not allow your kind to rule the pack!" the black wolf spat.
"But how can you run a pack if you kill them all?" the White wolf called back. The the wolves started to brawl at each other with their teeth and fangs. White and black fur started to fly up in the air leaving streaks of crimson on the green grass. An old saying started to run into the black wolfs head as he fought of to fend himself, and the wolf kind. 'Thy whom kills, shall never return again' is what his mother use to say until his brother killed her and his father. He started to think" the black wolf pup whispered "If I shall kill again, then it would be the good of our kind!" he howled the words, both the wolf pup, and the black wolf in the story he told.
Then a howl interrupted the wolf's story "Well we shall see what happens tomorrow, or tonight" the black pup said "Go see to dinner now" he nudged them to the pile of fresh meat the hunt patrol got for them.
"Mother!" the pups said to their mothers telling them the story the black wolf pup told them. "Then the white wolf said 'You can't get away from me that easily little brother!' the little pup howled the words as the white wolf did. The little pup continued with the story while the black pup walked to his parents den.
"Bobby tells the best stories you've ever heard!" the little pup finished.
"Yes he does" his mother replied to the little pup.
Bobby smiled at the comment he always loved telling his stories to someone, anyone. He loved to watch the stories grow beyond his imagination. He was proud of his stories as he told them, he would always find some wolf to listen to him. It was always the pups that would listen, and then they would tell their mothers, or brothers, sisters, or anyone who was willing to listen to them. He would find that his stories would travel a great distance in the far away lands. "Someday, I will be the black wolf above the falls" he said to himself quietly. What he didn't know that his wish was going to come true.
He remembered that story very well, and it did spread through out the entire forest. He never spoke of what happened to that pup that retold his stories, nor did anyone else. That pup was his best friend, and he was murdered by another wolf. He started to remember that story when he was one winter old. His pack was out hunting, patrolling, or what ever else that needed to be done in the pack. All but one wolf was left at the camp, a white wolf River, Black Walker's brother. River called to the black wolf's friend and told him a story that a wolf would die today. And it would be you who would spoil the soil of this ground. River finished the story to the other wolf and slaughtered him with one blow leaving bloodstains on his own maw, and paws. He stared down at the lifeless body growling with satisfaction. He then looked up to find a black wolf standing there, shaking his head staring at the body before the white wolf. He was returning from a hunting trip to show River what he caught. But he didn't know that River was hunting himself, but the wrong kind of hunting.
Just then River called out "How could you! Your best friend! Brother, you cold blooded murderer!" River kept calling out until the black wolf was close enough, and had his friends blood all over his muzzle. While the white wolf cleaned himself up he went back to the scene and called out to the other wolves to come quick. The black wolf was whimpering, and howling sympathy to his lost friend. River watched smirking at the sight, he walked up to his brother and whispered in his ear "This is only the beginning, your going down, brother. And when that happens I shall be the one to put an end to your life." River walked away from the grieving black wolf. He then turned to the white wolf and charged at him. The other wolves have already gathered to see the fight between the two brothers. A black wolf, and a white wolf put a stop to it at once. Black Walker told the black wolf what he seen, and the white wolf told his father what he really saw what happened, but of course the white wolf was lying through his own fangs. But the white wolf, and the black wolf believed River's every word.
Black Walker was sickened by it and went to sit by himself by the stream after he seen his nurse while River finished telling his lie. He started to tell himself a story to calm himself down. The one about the black wolf over the falls.
"A great black wolf stood on top of a clear waterfall, a blue light shown on him as he looked down at the pool of water below him. There stood a white wolf growling with anger, looking up at the wolf. It's maw covered with crimson red blood, it looked as if he was in a battle. He wanted to protect the wolves of the pack, but he ended up banished from the pack instead. He was helping the world getting rid of evil wolves, like his brother, the great white wolf named Ryu.' The black wolf clashed with the water making it turn red from the dried blood from his pelt, he dived under, and deeper then any wolf could have known."
"And then, splash his black head bobbed out of the water and swam to the white wolf. And there they started to size each other up.
"Brother, you are evil and I will not allow your kind to rule the pack!" the black wolf spat.
"But how can you run a pack if you kill them all?" the White wolf called. The the wolves started to brawl at each other with their teeth and fangs. White and black fur started to fly up in the air leaving streaks of crimson on the green grass. An old saying started to run into the black wolfs head as he fought off to fend himself, and the wolf kind.
'Thy whom kills, shall never return again' is what his mother use to say until his brother killed her and his father. He started to think" the black wolf whispered
"If I shall kill again, then it would be the good of our kind!" he kept whispering the story to himself as he went on.
"Your weak, brother and you know it!" the white wolf said growling as he stopped a brief second to catch his breath.
"Only to a power hungry wolf that never knew of life as it once was" the black wolf spat and started to attack his brother once more. It went on until sunset that the battle was finally over. The black wolf had fought off twenty-five wolves to get to his brother once again. But finally the black wolf have won his fight with his brother so long ago....." The black wolf stopped from his story telling to realize that it was himself, and his brother he was talking about all those years. The murderous white wolf, and the blue shining black wolf that had crimson dry blood on his pelt.
"I wanted to be the black wolf above the falls, and now.." the black wolf didn't finish his sentence. He turned to his den and talked to his mother once again. He told her about what happened when he returned to camp.
"I'm sorry, Bobby but I'm finding it hard to believe you." the female black wolf said.
"But you have to, I wouldn't just make this up. It's not a story, it's what I saw with my own eyes!" Bobby growled at his mother.
"Bobby please!" his mother snapped. Bobby had to recoil from his mother's vicious bites. "Everything is a story to you! A tall tale to tell, When are you going to learn that life is not a damn story!" his mother went on.
"But..." he gave up and walked out of the den his head hung low. 'I thought you would listen for once in your life, but your just ignoring me like everyone else in this pack. I'm a perfect target for my brother to pick, alone, and isolated from other wolves. Only having one friend in the pack. Always depended on another, but not anymore! I shall show you all that I'm not just a loner of the pack. I will rise to greatness!' Bobby thought looking at his pack as he reached a hill. He seen the wolves gather for a story telling of what happens, or what might happen, or what just happened. No doubt that River is telling them of Bobby.
Slowly Bobby became a wolf called Black Walker. Because of his pure black pelt, and the way he was starting to look more like a reaper of the forest.
Black Walker shook the image out of his mind and looked for some water. "All those stories, lies, where is it getting you River?" he would mostly ask himself this usual question. Twist followed him where ever he went. She suddenly became his shadow. He walked along the invisible trails that usually lead him to another pack. He was about to give up his search for a pack, but something told him that there is a pack out there waiting for him. Somewhere. He started to howl out of grief for his lost friend, soon his howl became soft whimpers. Twist would just listen to him as he went along.
"River Killed my parents too." Twist said she didn't even bother to explain to him. What was the use in that, it might trigger more images from his past. "Will you adopt me?" she asked hopeful.
"We will see" he said and kept moving forward. His steps light, and almost soundless. "Let's find a place to stay, and maybe we will try and get more wolves to join us. We have to take River down." Black Walker said his features starting to become like a shadow. Twist followed happily behind him into the forest of their new home.
