She stood and moved some of her hair out of her face as she smiled. From the hill she was on she could see the whole valley unfold in front of her. The fields colored by the flowers and green grass, the lake and ponds, streams and rivers holding sparkling blue water. The trees full of many colors, the blessing of fall. The sky blue and flecked with clouds that floated lazily through the sky. She smiled at the beauty of the valley she lived in.

    Than sat by himself under the shade of a tree near the lake. He stared out at the water, sparkling with the sun’s refection. He sat quietly, letting the sounds around him float peacefully.     Tien saw a man sitting out by the lake, alone. “No one should be alone, everyone needs a friend.” She stretched her wings then jumped into the air and flew down to the lake. As she got closer she noticed more about the man. She knew his name was Than, they lived in the same village and seeing it wasn’t that big everyone knew the others. She landed beside him and sat. “Why are you alone Than?”

    Than opened his eyes and looked at the woman beside him. She was just about his exact opposite in all possible ways. Tien was friends with everyone, she was light and happy at all times. Than on the other hand had no friends and was dark and alone. “When am I not alone?” was his only response for her as he looked at her with his blood red eyes. She wouldn’t understand how he felt, no one did. How could one of the most social people in the village understand how it felt to have no friends at all?
