• Chapter One

I looked at the gathering crowd in my town's center. "Listen. All of you! A man has escaped. He has murdered many people, and left a note in his jail cell. It had said, 'One of you is the victim'. Who knows the escaped man?!" I stepped up to the front. "What man?" The announcer looked down at me. "Jin..?" I nodded mutely. "There is a man out there who has escaped from prison. His name is unknown but goes by Azura. Put on your night light kid. It's scary out here." I nodded once more at the man I know as my hero. I walked off, thinking who could it be. Just then, I returned to the crowd. They seemed to be stirring uncomfortabbly. I realized why. Someone was moving. Moving not outside, but in the shadows. I felt nothing. I just knew that it was better to stay away. I ran as fast as I could as I heard a scream. Instead of running faster, I knew where it happened. I ran towards the center once more. Blood trickled down a lady's face. I heard a voice. You know you hear me.. Once I get to you, I will be you. My breathing became rapid. "Um.. Konjii?" Konjii Makage looked at me questioning. "Jin..?" he repeated. "I think I hear the escaped man.." He looked at me and pulled me onto the stage. "Everyone.. This child, Jin Kazemaki claims to have heard his voice. Has anyone else heard a voice?" Murmuring was heard about the crowd. I guess I shouldn't have told them.. Konjii looked at me, with fear in his eyes. "Come with me Jin..." I shook my head, now afraid. "Now! Its urgent!" He grabbed me and dragged me along towards his home.

"Jin... You are just like us. Except for one point. One major point.." Konjii began to scare me. "Yes. I know I am the same. We are all from some place, from one world." I replied. "But.. what is this one major point?" Konjii closed his eyes. "You claim to hear Azura.. Azura moves along the shadows. Jin.. Have you perhaps heard of the legend of the Shadow Mover?" I caught on. Azura was the Shadow Mover. And he was out to get me. "No.. But I have a feeling.. That he is the Shadow Mover. But what does that have to do with me? Please tell me the legend, Konjii. You have done many great things and I wish to know." Konjii agreed to tell me the tale, but he gave me a cup of green tea. "Drink up. It may shock you."
    **********
A long time ago, as many legends in this town state, there was a young child. A child who would be the savior of many. Except this child was special. He had no special power, but a cursed blood. Of course, this child knew nothing of it, and went along life casually. Until the enemy emerged. He would first start out as an outlaw, one who needed to be captured. The child was afraid. He slept with fear, and made it through the nights. Eventually the outlaw was captured and put in prison for 100 years. To make himself well known, he waited until the child grew a little. At least until he was 10. He knew of what would happen if he were to strike too soon. He would be killed for escaping much too soon. 5 years in prison did nothing to the man. He escaped, without setting off an alarm. He moved everything aside in the cold prison, without touching anything. Instead, the shadows shifted and moved. He was ready, prepared. Prepared to defeat a child, who knew nothing of his blood. One day the child was alone, and went for a stroll in the park. Of course, he had no guard up. The man stayed hidden behind bushes and trees, walking around like a shadow. The child knelt by a pond to feed the ducks with the bread he held. The man decided to scare him a little, for a challenge. You hear me. Child of Death, you will follow your name. You will follow your path in fate. Meaning to die by me he whispered hoarsely. Just as planned, he turned around. The man slashed at the child, but somehow, the child was safe. And he knew just what to do. He ran. Ran faster then the wind. In no time, he had a weapon. Being a Shadow controller, the man dodged each slash. Until the child finally struck him with his deadliest blow. A pause in the battle. The man screamed in pain, and shadow particles took over him. The child tried to strike the shadow, but because of what it was, he did not land a single blow. He screamed in agony as the shadow clawed at his face and made three scars on his face, flowing steadily with blood. The battle lasted for many days, until the child knew what he could only do. Find the source to destroy him, or sacrifice himself. The child sacrificed himself. Blood splattered, and went onto the shadow. The shadow took form of a child. He grew until he looked like his old self. He could never die until the shadow died out forever.

I dropped my cup of tea I was sipping. "I... I'm the Child of Death...?" Konjii nodded sadly. "Alas, no matter how many people have lost their lives to me, I cannot do this battle. It is only meant for the Child of Death." I felt dizzy. Why me? How do I defeat him? How will I know where to find the source? How will I know when to strike. The questions swirled in my mind, with no apparent answer. I managed to say one question that stood out from the others. "What is my path in fate...?" Konjii did not seem surprised, but surprised by the fact that I understood it all. "Your path.. is to be our savior. If you die, we all die. We all have shadows. A shadow that Azura can control. " I shook my head. "I don't know if I can do this, Konjii. In fact, I've been having hallucinations. Hallucinations of blood. I was taking a bath, and closed my eyes. I tried to remember my past, and I remembered a boy, with brown hair like me, who had a white sword and with this big black cloaked figure above him. I opened my eyes and I was in blood. I screamed and it turned to water again. I .. I don't want to do this." Konjii became pale. "I will come with you." I shook my head. "Please.. I was sent to do this. If you don't, the world will come to an end."
