- Our paws were raw and bleeding, our fur caked with snow and dirt. Our tails no longer wagged, but rather, they dragged, leaving long trails in the snow. Our teeth no longer gleamed, but were growing yellow. Our eyes had lost their glow, they looked dull and foreboding. Our stomachs were shrinking our ribs showed. Our fur had lost its gleam and shine, and our pace had slowed considerably. Our ears did not perk. We were growing weak and could no longer hunt enough food, so we were always hungry. Our sense of smell was dulled. Our legs were numb. Our pups whimpered but we could not help them, we couldn't even help ourselves. We could not afford to fight amongst ourselves so no one spoke and we were quick to forgive. Our growls no longer were fierce, and our claws were no longer in fit shape to fight, so we padded on quietly to avoid detection by nearby or hostile packs. And as if that wasn't enough, we were caught in a blizzard. We could only trudge on and hope no other wolves would spot us, and pray for our lives to be spared.
