• Cinderella is the fairy tale girl from long ago. She's the little happy princess. Girly and singing and beautiful, despite the ugliest rags anyone threw on her.. We all know that's not how real life works. This is the story about Cinderella as it really is. She is "Ella" to everyone that knows her. This is her story. Welcome; to Cinderella really re-told.
Cinderella was a happy girl. Her mother was a Lawyer, her father was a well known Senator. She was brought up with only the best of the best items. One horrible day her mother had just won a big case sentencing a man to life imprisonment and, as she walked out of the courtroom, a shot rang out and a bullet was seen flying towards her head. Before anyone could do anything, Cinderella's mother was dead, on the ground.
The little girl was in kindergarten at the time, so her father had to raise the little girl by himself. Until... (Don't you just love untils? They mean either a fate worse than death or a gift from heaven.) Until a widow showed up at the bar where Little Ella's father went to drown his misery in alcohol. The widow would become Cinderella's stepmother. The step-mother would be named Vain and her daughter was called Ruma. They moved into Cinderella's house when she was just starting 8th grade.
Of course you know this part of the story. All of Ella's brand name, hundred dollar, clothes were replaced with high necked T-shirts and ripped jeans. Even in these clothes she was beautiful. Vain then banned all extra carricular activities and Ella was made to clean the house. This is when we jump in.
"Cinderella!" Vain, Ella's stepmother called shrilly at the top of her nasty, off key, sing-song voice.
"What the hell do you want?" Ella snapped at her.
"Ella! Is that anyway to treat your stepmother?" her father asked.
"Don't worry about it snookums." Vain told him in her sweet and deadly as poisoned honey voice, ignoring Ella's false retching noises from behind her.
"Okay, my sweet Vain heart. She should treat you with more respect."
Both of them continued in this manner until Ella spoke up. "I am standing here for a reason, you know?" she snapped at her stepmother.
"Yes." her father cleared his throat. "I have a very important job to do over seas and I might be gone for a few months. While I'm gone I expect you to be on your best behaviour." he said looking at her sternly.
"Yes daddy." she kissed his cheek.
"Well, I have to go catch my plane now. I'll see you both in a few months." He kissed his daughter's forehead and straightened his tie. Picking up his briefcase, he walked out to the Taxi that was already waiting outside. He waved one last time at his daughter and new wife, who was blowing kisses erratically. His daughter waved one last, sad, goodbye, and turned away. Once the taxi was out of sight Vain turned around to Ella and started barking orders.
"Alright Ella. Now you need to get to work. Go clean your room and start making breakfast."
She turned on her heel and marched upstairs to her daughter, Ruma's room.
