    Chapter one – Rainy day

    Creeeeeeek

The door behind Amber opens slowly, slightly startled she jumps and turns around, her honey eyes falling on a male dress in all black. She stands up her head tilted slightly. Amber's expression was vague, reading as indifferent. “What are you doing hear?” She demands weakly.

With out a word the young man approaches his hand raises to her fore head, Amber flinches at the gesture. Both eyes close and her nose wrinkles in anticipation, “Your fever has broken.” He answers in a monotone voice. His long bony fingers move to her braided bangs, “What's this?”

“You still haven't answered me, Leon.” She hisses.

Leon, said young man sighed heavily. “Alison is taking over for me tonight at the tech booth. This way I could come home to make sure your alright.” He answers discarding her dyed black hair.

“Why is Ali taking over? She won't get paid, she's graduated last year.” Amber adds in.

“Yeah, but you know Elaina, she'll just lie and say that I was there and I'll still get paid,” He walked over to the refrigerator and pulled out a soda. While opening he quickly throws in, “Your yet to answer me now.” Leon then takes a long sip, his gray lifeless eyes staying on her.

Amber remembering his question begins to toy with her long braids, “I was trying to keep my mind off how hungry I was.”

He nodded, “So have you tired eating anything?” Leon asks, his brown eye brows furrowing in agitation.

“I just threw everything back up.” Amber pointed out, “Any ways, we don't really have any food.”

There was a pause and Leon turned around opening up the cupboard and shifting through the emptiness that was their food supplies. “Your right...Where did all the money go for food?” Silences went between the two. Amber rubbed her arms, old scars lingering on the pail limbs.

“Do you think that t-this was a mistake?” She asks him, her eyes looking at the floor still, a large multi colored cat rubbing against her legs. She smiled as it let out a hungry meow.

“It's hard to say...” Leon turns away from the cream colored cupboards. “I mean...If we didn't do this I wouldn't have any money to save for college, you would be stuck going off to medical school and being completely deprived of happiness there, as for Alison, this give her a better reason to go on with her schooling next year.”

Amber looked up, “Yeah, but...Even though its not what I want, I still feel like, like...” She stopped, what she wanted to say was that she would feel like she was disgracing her family for not wanting to be a nurse or doctor, which everyone else in the family was. She wanted to have her own Internet store and do what she pleased daily.

Leon looked into Amber puppy dog eyes. “Don't think that.” He told her. The two had been going out so long they managed to develop the ability to read the other's mind and finish sentences for each other.
“If its not what you want then don't do it.” His voice took the sound of a broken record. They've had this conversation many times before.

Amber smiled a bit and nodded. Her hands going up and pulling at the braids. Slipping the rubber binders off and smoothing them all out. The mess of hair was a bit full of little black kinks, showing that she sprayed hair spray on them to keep the hair wavy. “Your right, like always...So is there any thing in there?” She asked walking over. Leon refused to move out of her way and stood with both arms crossed. Amber stepped back and glared, “Leon I can't get by with your wide bum in my way.” Even though like her, Leon was only about ninety-nine to one hundred and five pounds.

    “I'm not moving.” He answered.

Amber felt her self becoming livid and tried getting around him, but he moved in front of her hand.
“What happened to 'I'm not moving'?” She asked him stepping away.

“I'm not moving unless you do.” Leon rephrased. Amber lunged to his left and he met her there, then up, then to the right ,then back up, to the right again, and then finally she stopped. He smiled at her fuming expression, Amber blew one of the kinky and wispy bangs out of her face and charged directly at him. Looking like she planned to give him a hug, but she did not.

Amber found away around him and begun shifting though the cupboards with her arms around him, finally she found a box that was purple and red with the words 'Popcorn' strewn across in bold white letters. “I win.” She smirked removing a bag and putting it in the microwave.

Amber was busy watching the bag jump about as Leon walked off to the living room and turned on the T.V., they honestly didn't have many channels just enough to keep them entertained. When he realized what was on the television he was quick to hit the mute button for it was a broad cast about the weather, Amber's main fear was death, because of that many other fears hatched within her like for instance dieing in sever weather (Which was why Leon put the television on mute), that any insect that she comes across could be venomous, and his personal favorite that the roller coaster at the local amusement park breaks would fail and she would be sent off the edge crashing and of course dieing.

When she entered the room with two bowls of popcorn he changed the channel. “What was that?” She asked.

“Oh,” He pause listening to her chew for a moment, “We might just get some light rain.”
