• I sat on the bench, putting on the big black boots that where hard to walk in. but these weren’t regular boots. They where jet boots. Using thrust modules from science, me and James had put them together so we could escape this wretched place together, but he had been sent to detention. At this school, Calesker prep, detention wasn’t just sit in a room bored with your teacher staring at you. Detention was permanent.
There were rumors that the kids that where sent there were treated like lab rats and all sorts of experiments where preformed on them. And you could even hear screams coming from the distance if you listened hard when it wasn’t windy and you were outside.
“I’ll come back for you, James. I promise.” I said, tears streaming down my face. “But for now, I need to escape this hell on earth. But I will come back for you.”
I set the switch on the side of the left boot to ON, and jets of fire burst out of my feet. My feet where lifting off the ground! Slowly but surely, I began to rise. Then they sputtered, making loud and obnoxious noises.
“No, no, no!” I whispered, as if the boots could hear me. “You need to be quiet!”
“What is that horrible-“ Mrs. Bixinburr came out of one of the doors that led to the courtyard I was floating above. By now I was about seven feet off the ground, “Nami! What are you doing?”
“Escaping!” I yelled out, willing the boots to go faster.
Mrs. Bixinburr pushed the big red button that the teachers at Calesker always had on there belts in case of an emergency. In a matter of seconds, fifteen other teachers surrounded me below, there faces gleaming I’m the moonlight. They where all trying to grab me.
“Come on! Go faster!” I yelled at my boots, slamming them together. For a second, they stopped completely and I stayed suspended in the air, waiting for gravity to pull me down to my doom. But then a sudden burst of flames shot oust of the boots, and I was shooting through the sky like a bird.
I felt something grab my left leg, and I looked down. It was a grappling hook, and its wielder was headmaster Gwendolyn, the meanest, harshest, prettiest teacher in the whole world. She gave me an evil smile that froze my heart. She pressed a button on the other side of the grappling hook and I felt a shock running through my body.
“Aaaaaaaagh!” I screamed. She had electrocuted me!
I started to fall, my vision fading, boots sputtering, no more bursts of fire coming out. Thump! I crashed to the ground, pain shooting through my entire body. I could see the faces of all the teachers around me, all with twisted, satisfied smirks on their faces.
“Miss Kiasu, I’m afraid you are going to have to go to detention.” Said headmaster Gwendolyn, kneeling down so I could see her emotionless face. “Huh,” she mumbled a tinny smile of pure evil appearing on her face. “I had high hopes in you, Nami. But apparently, you cannot be trusted; it’s a shame to have to waste such a brilliant and clever mind.”
“Someday, ill get out! Just you wait and see… just… wait…” I yelled, as I slipped into unconsciousness.
