Chapter One
Swirling wind. Everything is peaceful, serenity all about. A vibrant meadow appears, the greenest grasses ever seen, and one single tree stands in the middle. I sit upon a soft blanket in the shade under the medium-sized maple tree. I inhale the air. I found my true happy place, but this wasn’t a daydream. It was an actual dream. Something is off in the distance. I see swaying reddish brown hair upon a pale face. Her eyes are hazel, and she was wearing a beautiful gold satin dress that moved with every gust of the wind. Mom.
“Mother?” I call out to her. She notices my voice; she starts to run to me. I see tears welling up in her green eyes, and then the tears fall off of her face and behind her as she ran. Her soft, pink lips parted, as she was about to say something.
“Jennifer! Get out of here, darling! You are in danger! Leave now! You must leave town! Get out of here! Now! Now! He’s coming! Jennifer…!” Mother sobbed as she approached me. Eerily, she stopped in her tracks. Then, all hell broke loose.
“Oh, dear. Your poor mother can’t save you now. Like you couldn’t save her then night she ‘killed herself.’ Don’t you remember, Jennifer? When you were seven, on that one specific date. What was it? Oh yes. April 26th of the year 2000. I remember you were crying and pounding on the door. ‘MOMMY! MOMMY STOP SCREAMING! MOMMY I NEED YOU. PLEASE MOMMY OPEN THE DOOR!’ Then you heard her shrieks. You felt a thud against the door. The last words your mother breathed ‘Jen it’s your fault.’ You heard a slash and then the door opened. Your mother’s body dropped in front of you, her abdomen slaughtered and bleeding. The knife was in her throat. So sad, Jennifer. You killed your mom.” A distorted voice came from the mouth of what I thought was my mom.
“You’re wrong!” I screamed in horror. My hands were shaking and I remembered the horrifying scene of that night.
“I’m right. Now, I’ll help you ‘kill yourself.’ Like mother, like daughter!” I saw a knife was in my hand. Without my own control of my body, my hand raised to my throat and then-
I woke up.
